The Chickasaw Trails Association and the Hernando Bicycle Club are co-sponsoring the Red Pride Bike Ride, set for Saturday, Oct. 29, starting at the Hernando Farmers Market on the historic Hernando Square. The route, which will send riders through beautiful valleys, along breathtaking ridge tops and bluffs, through woodlands and along picturesque plateaus, is 41 miles long and ends up back at the square. Riders will get a chance to ride alongside trails first used by Native Americans thousands of years ago.

The ride is one of the activities designed to help celebrate National Native American Month and DeSoto County's unique Chickasaw heritage. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the establishment of the Chickasaw Trails system in DeSoto County. In addition, Native American dancers from Chucalissa will also perform at the Farmers Market at 10 a.m.

Registration for the bike ride begins at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race on the DeSoto County courthouse lawn for a fee of $25. Early registration is also available at www.racesonline.com for $20 prior to ride day.

Each registrant will receive a race t-shirt and goodie bag.

For more information check out the Chickasaw Trails Association Page on Facebook.

Route Description:
The ride begins at 8 a.m. at the DeSoto County courthouse in Hernando and proceeds west down Old Hwy. 304 for 2.5 miles to Tulane Road on the right; continues along Tulane Road North to Star Landing Road. Bikers will then travel approximately three-tenths of a mile along U.S. 61 to Nail Road and then proceed east up Nail and along Nail to Horn Lake Road. The ride then turns south along Horn Lake Road and then west along Nesbit Road to Fogg Road. Beginner Rides

Are you new to cycling?

Not ready for the long rides yet?

We are planning to have Saturday later morning beginner rides.

The beginner rides will be shorter, like 5-10 miles,

and designed as a ride to help less experienced riders have a starting point.

An experienced club rider will be there to go over the basics,

and let you know what to expect.

The Hernando Bicycle Club wants riders of all levels to

get out and enjoy the sport of cycling.

Check the calendar to see if a beginner ride is planned for this week.
